Review of Dunston Checks In (1996) by Jordan K — 16 Jan 2012
Yeah, uh, this isn't my kind of movie. I think animals and comedy movies aren't well together at all, as proven in this movie.
Robert Grant, the manager of the Majestic Hotel, is always worried, especially with his two troublemaking sons, Kyle and Brian. When Kyle meets a strict (and in my opinion, creepy-like) man named Lord Rutledge, he finds out he is a criminal with a monkey sidekick, Dunston, Kyle takes a liking to Dunston, who makes the hotel filled with chaos.
I realized I like silliness, but slapstick- not so much. It's got a lot of slapstick in this movie, which I don't like. I also don't like "Lord Rutledge" much. Jason Alexander- eh- alright. I don't like the kids much, either. But I do have to give it to "Dunston". He's pretty smart. But it's just annoying at points, funny at points. Some of it is boring, even. The main thing I don't really like is there's no story to it. Just a monkey causing mischief is the whole 1 hr 29 minutes of it.
If your kids like slapstick and silly comedy, this is good. If not, it's horrible.
