Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Federico L — 12 Feb 2018
I have given this film 4 stars out of 5 because deep down I truly recognise its merits and the great directing work of Chris Nolan. I respect and admire the work of Nolan here as it portrays an epic monument of human history that needed a great cinematic homage.
As much as I enjoyed Nolan's obsession with time (which goes back to his masterwork Memento) I found that here it became restrictive and daunting to the untamed beauty of a contemporary cinematography which might not be the right answer to portray such an important war film.
Too much technique at display and not enough passion in delivering the cinematic message. Still deserves all the four stars I am giving it.
