Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Harold S — 27 Dec 2017
Not seeing what all the fuss is about. Disconnected individual stories that peter out rather than resolve. Soldiers are portrayed as impotent bystanders who would rather run than fight. Air war scenes are repetitive and predictable (did anyone not realize the german bomber would crash into the oil and ignite it?).
One bright spot was the tale of the old man and his sons. If the movie had focused on their story, with the larger drama as backdrop, it could have had focus and at the same time allowed for more character development.
