Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Jay W — 23 Dec 2017
The story was good enough. The level of historical inaccuracy was unacceptable. The storylines and their chronology also confused audiences. The storylines are all fictionalized. There were a large number of real stories that would have given audiences a story to trust.
Instead, the director minimalized the contributions of the French, unnecessarily fictionalized accounts, worsened the weather, messed with the chronology, and misled as to the fuel capacities of the Spitfire.
This movie does not do the real conflict justice because the real stories were sufficiently dramatic. I can't wait for a time when we can trust directors to accurately represent history.
