Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Damiano C — 07 Dec 2017
I know for certain words will fail me in describing what I just experienced while watching Dunkirk but i'm just going to give it a try any way.
What Nolan did here with Dunkirk is beyond anything I expected, He jolted the epic war genre and he did it with immense style and unprecedented techniques as Nolan does of course, for he considers his projects as personal challenges, I'm gonna start off with what I thought is the best thing about the film which is the non-linear storytelling and how he manged to patch three sub stories happening at same time, it's just unbelievably amazing to watch it unfold and to do that with perfect synchronization is just taking it to a whole other level, the acting is second to none and it's extremely natural and touching which is something you come to expect in a Nolan film, which brings me to the cinematography where I practically witnessed the events as if I was actually there, the immersion factor is off the charts here, I was literally gripped from start to finish in the most amazing of ways, the switch between 35mm lens and 70mm is as refreshing as it can get, it captures the contrast in the story in a brilliant and subtle way, In some scenes I didn't even notice and that's exactly why I should use the words of a friend and I quote " Nolan has mastered the Imax to the fullest " I honestly can't agree with that any more, Nolan utilized it in a perfect way to capture what only can be described as an epic survival story, All of that was coupled with jaw dropping score, Oh that score, Zimmer's soundtrack worked as a guide through the thrilling sequences and added unmatched suspense to the story and that's exactly what Hans does, amazing masterpiece to say the least, In a nutshell, Dunkirk as film is the equivalent of a powerful drug with a never seen before high.
I can say with all confidence and convection that Dunkirk is by far the best film in the year and probably one of the best films I ever watched in this genre, yet again Nolan graces us with impeccable film making and for that it is imperative that he showed be rewarded with the highest honor a director could receive which is an Oscar, I don't have a shred of doubt in my mind that he deserves that.
THANK YOU NOLAN.
