Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Tony K — 19 Aug 2017
When my peaceable wife and her more military husband do not like a movie, it is a singularity. Similar scenes of violence, much omission of needed explanation, mostly undeveloped characters I could not invest in (with rare exception), characters that were largely indistinguishable, and while sea, air, land components had potential they were predictable and largely disconnected.
No "Private Ryan", Hurt Locker." etc. Learned little about Dunkirk and little about the commercial armada -- although admittedly the single boat motif was a nice touch. Identifying the Dunkirk moment in WW history is appreciated, but the execution of the story, in my opinion, could have benefited from a pre-mortem.
