Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Jeremy M — 06 Aug 2017
Great visuals, clear and passionate storytelling! Christopher Nolan is clearly a visionary auteur. There is a sense of tension that runs the duration of the movie and adds real stakes to the characters.
Hans Zimmer's score is authentic, daring, and tense.
The only aspects that deserve critique is the sound design. As with some of Nolan's films, it is often hard to understand or hear dialogue. Characters that have an obstruction over their mouth (mask, etc.) lose articulation in their lines and it's hard to follow story points.
Additionally, there was a lack of representation from women and diverse cultures. Something that's hard to ignore in 2017.
