Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Ben F — 29 Jul 2017
There was nothing in the movie compelling me to keep watching... I left asking myself "what was the story Nolan was trying to tell?" I felt like it was a sweeping view of the entire event and in so doing, failed to give weight to any of it.
The music score was right along with it in that it was a constant and sustained up tempo loud climatic arrangement that made me ask the entire time "why the hype, it's literally a guy sitting in a plain right now" To me this film failed to deliver as a war movie, as a documentary, as a retelling, as bode to the past and as a survival story.
So again I'm left with what the hell was Nolan trying to convey? Or more simply, don't waste your money to see it in theaters.
