Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Anuj & A — 26 Jul 2017
Powerful, Passionate, and beautiful. Chis Nolan once again proves that audiences are not too dumb for intellectual films.
Hans Zimmer's heart racing score, powerful performances from newcomer Fionn Whitehead, and the ever brilliant Tom Hardy & Kenneth Branagh drive this art-house meets blockbuster war film that reminds us how dangerous war is and unnecessary it should be for humans to put themselves through it.
It's a cinematic masterpiece. Surely will be nominated for it's cinematography and it's screenplay. The structure is brilliant and really fresh for the war genre. And much like the "comic book" Nolan might have very well re-awakened an entire genre so used to the Micheal bay boom boom boobs approach. It's a Christopher Nolan film - you don't need us to tell you to go see it.
70mm is the way he shot it and it's the way it deserves to be viewed in all it's large format glory. By every measure that we use to objectively talk about film - this is gold. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, at times make you smile, and wrap it all up with some tears in your eyes. Dunkirk is a MUST see in theaters. In 70mm.
