Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Liam F — 27 Jul 2017
This is one of those films you are going to find yourself sitting and watching every time it comes around on telly ... character backgrounds are omitted, we are thrown right onto the beach at Dunkirk and the peril of those trying to escape by sea, hardly a single boat seems not to get sunk and to the rescue come a civilian fleet and our heroes in the air (one of which turns out to be Tom Hardy).
The vivid air battles, the ships sinking all create and crank up a palpable tension and although we don't know the characters fighting to escape very well, we are willing them onward. We are spared what could have been be a bloody affair, with more the feeling of Dunkirk Spirit and thanks to those who came to the rescue.
Christopher Nolan delivers again with his usual directorial flair, although I did hanker for a little more "punch" from this film.
