Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Candace B — 28 Jul 2017
Christopher Nolan tries to relate a real and moving event from World War II without ever saying the words "German," "Hitler," or "Nazi"; and to an audience that was taught zip about WWII in school.
Viewers may be pardoned therefore for wondering why all these soldiers were on the beach, and how they were gotten off by just 3 planes and 20 boats in 24 hours! Really, Nolan not only misses the mark he actually diminishes what was the most heroic event of the war.
I wish he had taken some of those millions spent on CGI and used them to hire more background actors, fishing boats, and a screenwriter strong on developing characters. This fails on more levels than I can count.
