Wow, what a head scratcher this one is. Just saw the movie today and I'm utterly confused about all the rave reviews. This movie was certainly no "masterpiece", or even close to the "best war movie ever made".

Not even close! What the heck are critics talking about?! It's not a terrible movie, but I agree with so many other reviewers who have written that the movie is missing something, I felt no emotional connection whatsoever.

You will learn nothing about the characters because they hardly speak, you will learn nothing about how this entire situation at Dunkirk came to be. You will not see a realistic depiction of the evacuation.

About the only thing I do agree with is that the visuals/flying scenes are really well done, and I thought the sounds were quite realistic. I can see an Oscar for "best sound editing". However, these scenes become repetitive and ultimately quite boring.

It's so silly that Tom Hardy's plane has endless ammunition, and glides around for an eternity after running out of fuel. Too add to the silliness, poor Kenneth Branagh has to utter the movie's cheesiest, groan inducing line about being able to see "home".

I love Mark Rylance as an actor, but his talent is totally wasted here, there is nothing for him to sink his teeth into. There are other characters, such as 'George' that add little and really make very little sense in the movie.

All in all I felt compelled to write this review to save someone else from going to see this very hyped-up, completely forgettable, totally overrated movie! Don't do it !
