Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Cyrano M — 20 Jul 2017
This movie was almost instantly my new favorite, it thrusts you into a historically accurate representation of 1944 Dunkirk, this movie is an excellent representation of what a good score can do for a film, the constant watch ticking and shrill violins keep you not only concerned but at times horrified as to what will happen next, and it only lets up when the main character finally finds relief, and it's fantastic, the long panning shots did the magnitude of the ships, beaches, and ocean justice by showing how massively these war machines were, it's also very good at encapsulating the idea of shell shock or PTSD and how one might react in certain instances.
The cast was magnificent and each played their roles as well as anyone could, I was skeptical but pleasantly surprised at Harry Styles presanace in the movie, and he ended up being very good im happy to say, practical effects are something that I highly appreciate in movies and this one did it gloriously, in my opinion this is Christopher Nolan's masterpiece.
