Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Nancy P — 21 Jul 2017
The French should be happy they magically did not have a role in this film shot in "France".Terrible waste of money and time. This film was not only boring it was poorly made. For example...the sea is calm and then there is a cut in the very same scene the sea is rough. There are zero clouds in the sky and cut...magically now clouds everywhere. It is mid day...oops then right to dusk in the same scene....mind blowing leaps of faith. Mark Rylance was ALMOST....not 100% but almost as bad as Woody Harrelson in the monkey movie. If you did not see the latest Ape's film it is actually amazing with the exception of Woody's comical performance. Lets get back to Dunkirk. Mark Rylance may as well been playing a guy at a stamp auction. With Spitfire's rocketing by 50 feet off the deck...with death and smoke in the air...with some dopey dude he dragged out of the water killing people on his boat he may as well have played a wooden Indian. It must have been hell on the crew moving the statue from shot to shot. The rest of the actors were also terrible. I guess it is not their fault as how can a bunch of spoiled brats possibly know what it is like to face death. Most of these actors have several personal assistants and are Hollywood pussies for sure worried about their skin and not getting "too much sun" let alone seeing thousands of their friends being butchered in close. Never have so many men been on camera in one place...well not true..I guess gay cruises should count. Overall...make up excellent but whats up with all the hairdos in a war epic...wardrobe excellent...cinematography good when the light matched...music good but laughably overcooked and predictable ( like cue the music ha can you actually cue the cue?).
Direction overindulged mess....aerial photography excellent...acting pathetic...promoting this dog excellent. Signed Nancy Puppet.
