Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Geep N — 30 Jul 2018
Spoilt for a haporth o tar. The railway carriage the soldiers were in at the end was a 1970's Inter-City. For Gods sake no 1940's train had Formica on the walls. Where is the wooden framed door and the big leather strap to pull up the window.
Horsehair seats, tobacco brown not blue. Everyone would have been smoking. All that effort, according to the special extra DVD, which was more interesting than the film actually, and they couldn't source or build a period train compartment.
Kenneth Branagh seemed to be a man without a care in the world. I could never get a Cessna to glide as far as that Spit, which with the enormous Merlin would have become a plummeter at that altitude. My uncle who was there in the RAMC said there were hundreds of bodies.
Overall not a bad effort, it told the story in a new way, but was sadly disappointing somehow. I will watch it again somewhen, but I think the 'The John Mills' 1958 version was definitely better IMHO.
