Review of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) by Scienceadvisor — 05 Apr 2023
A lot of reviews have suggested this would be great for D&D fans, however the race-swapping of Elminster (his father and his grandson) and forced diversity easily give it woke unertones. As well the females being the physical strongest, one without any explanation in a world full of magic, or nearly sufficient muscle mass to pull of the stunts.
The establishment of rules that are promptly broken, or ignored when convenient also reduces enjoyment. Overall a fine time waster, but little more. There are a few scenes that actually achieve the humor they attempted for, and I can see this scoring higher with kids or those than can shut their brain off (those that liked Ant Man 3 or Shazam 2).
However, those that know D&D lore in more than passing will find many aspects to be disappointing if they believe the claim that this is true to it in more than spirit.
