Review of Dungeons & Dragons (2000) by Eric On His Fantasy Quest V — 09 Jan 2009

A common role-playing game enjoyed by the gamers of the world, "Dungeons & Dragons" has a movie that caught to my eyes right now, even though I don't play such games. But its settings were great - the film is set in the Empire of Izmer. The evil Profion wants to conquer it. Empress Savina inherits both the throne and a scepter to control gold dragons; with a sense of youthful idealism, she calls for equality among the empire's social classes. Saving the day are our heroes Ridley, Snails, and Marina, among others. They fight! As I recently saw the "D&D" trailer and noticed its December 8, 2000 release date I had no idea there were already great fantasy movies before Peter Jackson's "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy. It does have sword fights, magic, and elves; the action scenes are there, too. What a good fantasy film!

Directed by Courtney Solomon, "D&D" has good acting performances from the following cast:

1.) Justin Whalin (Ridley).

2.) Marlon Wayans (Snails).

3.) Thora Birch (Empress Savina).

4.) Zoe McLellan (Marina).

5.) Kristen Wilson (Norda).

6.) Lee Arenberg (Elwood).

7.) Bruce Payne (Damodar).

8.) Jeremy Irons (Profion).

Having seen him in comedy, I had no idea Marlon Wayans could participate in a serious role of Snails here but he was definitely good - and sometimes a little bit funny, too! Reciting out "Alanor, Salah, Bidora" as a magic spell is some memorable quote that I'll easily remember so much from the fantasy world.

Having finished viewing "D&D", another fantasy-themed film goes right into my film list. Gotta find more sword fights, magic, and elves in films like this!
