Review of Dune (2021) by Totorigami — 03 Nov 2021
I was worried how will Denis film a book that is composed in 95% of monologues, inner thoughts and descriptions. And the effect is, that one could say, that the movie is exactly like the book, but without all those inner thoughts.
So, to fully appreciate the movie, it is strongly advised to read, or rather immerse oneself in the book beforehand. The movie does feel like it skims through a synopsis of the book, and despite being very slow paced, actually feels rushed, as some parts form the book were changed, shortened or deleted.
However, the visuals, sticking close the original material and general from-a-fan-for-fans feel makes me not able to hate the movie. I hope part 2 will be at least as good, and that Denis will get the chance to film other parts, at least the first main sotryline (Dune-Messiah-Children).
