Review of Dune (2021) by Mrinalkanti — 25 Oct 2021
This movie largely caters to the audience that are familiar with the novel. A lot of screen time is wasted on building up the atmosphere for the visuals with little time for the narration given how much plot is covered within the runtime of two and half hours.
May be the plot might have been original when it was first established in the novel but offers nothing new for the viewers who have been following any of the pop culture icons of modern times. Game of thrones meets Mass Effect meets Arabian Nights.
Its like some of the iconic set pieces from these popular shows and games were blended with a Christoper Nolan style visuals to secure a solid box office launch. The rich visuals only cater to those who are familiar with the plot but it does little to cover the story for those who are being introduced to the franchise for the first time.
It was like watching the first episode of some sci-fi show that could have been condensed to 45 mins worth of plot instead of 2.5 hours if they just toned down the visuals.
