Review of Dune (2021) by Zuultaan — 23 Oct 2021
The visuals are stunning, props for that. Sound is great. Unfortunate casting decisions bring the film down and make it basically unwatchable for me. Liet Kynes being female destroys the patriarchal society of the fremen which relegates females to mystic leaders. Making Liet female really destroys what Herbert was trying to get across, that fremen are related to modern day muslims and the oil/spice relationship. That is just one of the many poor casting decision that in my opinion, as a great fan of the previous dune movies and books, makes it basically unwatchable. The director caved too much to SJW fantasies. It interferes with the message and in this case its diametrically opposed to the book. Keynes dies in a volatile pre spice mass abandoned to the desert not stabbed in the back, not how he goes in the movie (male because its critical to the fremen). Volatile pre spice mass because its essential to the story. He dies alone because he is a desert creature. This treatment alone of Keynes makes the movie unwatchable to me.
Zendaya cant act, terrible choice for chani.
If you are a true fan of the books you are definitely not going to like this.
