Review of Dumbo (1941) by Zack H — 06 Jul 2010
What makes this great is that the filmmakers had so much fun with such a simple story. It has a hilariously anthropomorphized train engine that repeats the mantra "I think I can" when faced with a difficult climb, an alcohol-induced sequence involving pink elephants that makes you forget this is a Disney film and the title character himself learning to fly with his giant ears once he finds a magic feather.
You can call Disney a lot of things, but run-of-the-mill is not one of them.
