Review of Dumbo (1941) by Tushar K — 13 Dec 2012
Arguably the second most important animated film of all-time, in that it both more or less saved Disney as a company upon it's 1941 release, and that it was the first animated film ever to be clearly aimed at a juvenile audience.
That said, it's a masterpiece. Cute and sentimental without ever feeling cloying, with a strong emotional arc, wonderfully memorable characters, and a couple of great songs. The racial stereotype of the crow characters is unfortunate, but one tends to forgive things from 1941 for not living up to the standards of 2012.
