Review of Dumbo (1941) by Charlotte T — 31 Aug 2013
This movie is lovely, beautiful and definitely one of Disney's finest works. The Pink Elephants scene, along with the crows and mistreatment of the elephants, plenty of this film is a comment on society in 1940-41. Dumbo was originally intended just to recoup Fantasia's financial losses, but ended up becoming a Disney classic. The early 1940s weren't a great time for Disney - in the middle of World War II, people had other things on their minds and therefore Disney made financial losses. But, eventually, their movies made around this time (e.g. Dumbo and Fantasia) are often considered some of the best Disney films of all time.
This movie it utter perfection from Disney, and I absolutely love it. It's brilliant for all ages and I highly, highly recommend it.
