Review of Dumbo (1941) by Robert C — 18 Oct 2011
This movie was excruciatingly sad. Jumbo Jr. is named Dumbo by the other elephants since he has big ears, and when he is made fun of by the humans visiting the circus, though his innocence does not let him know that they're making fun of him, Dumbo's mom protects him and winds up chained, caged, alone--separated from her son--simply because she protected her "freak". Honestly, the only thing that makes this movie be saved is the fact that the mouse is nice to Dumbo, and even then he's greedy and wants Dumbo to be a "great circus act". Throughout the whole of the movie, *in all its entirety*, all I wanted was to hug little Jumbo Jr. close and tell him that it'll all be okay.
Great movies inspire emotion in us. Terrible movies inspire hatred and sadness. While Dumbo had good animation, it fell into the latter category of movies. Not good at all.
