Review of Dumb and Dumber To (2014) by Rob S — 08 Aug 2015
Once again, don't expect smart comedy at all from this title. This movie is made in the same spirit of the first movie, and while it has moments that are funnier than some moments in the first film, something about this movie just doesn't make it as enjoyable as the first.
Just like Dumb & Dumber, this film has a very basic plot - once again involving villains trying to obtain a fortune, one of them being a family member of the person they are trying to rip off. The main plot from Harry and Lloyd's perspective, though, is that Harry is led to believe he has a daughter he has never met, and this daughter could possibly be a match for a kidney transplant Harry is in need of.
The most memorable parts of the movie are the few hilarious bits spread throughout the movie as well as Lloyd's attraction to the girl they are trying to track down.
The humor that comes from the brothers who directed this movie seems a little dated, even though many comedies that are released today are just as dumb or possibly dumber than this flick. I think Carrey's days of comedy are close to done, and we live in a generation where the top comedians include people like Will Ferrell (unfortunately), Kevin Hart, and Jason Segel.
