Review of Dumb and Dumber To (2014) by Rebecca J — 28 Nov 2015

Wow. Just watched this movie and as much as they hyped it up before its inception, it just wasnt all that hot. First of all, the two top billed stars (Carey and Daniels) are getting WAYYY too old to be the fun loving, goofy guys that that they once portrayed in this trilogy's first go round. Uh-uh. Here they come off as two pathetically unfunny near senior citizens attempting to pull off juvenile pranks that are not really hilarious...pathetic maybe, but not hilarious. Kathleen Turner is funnier as a costar who has to put up with these two has beens, and is not seen in her younger years as herself, but is stood in by a body double who's face is never seen. At times, their could have been moments that would have made for a good laugh, but the Farelly brothers just let the opportunity slide right past them; instead they rely on raunchy, teenage like humor to try and hold the audiences attention.

At the same time, Carrey's character as a near 60 (if not older) baby boomer with an intense attraction to a 24 year old young lady is extremely creepy if not nauseating. Carrey himself even questions the age difference, wondering if a man his age should even act on his feelings towards a girl that young.

There are some funny moments within this stinker though; like Turner slapping the crap out of her daughters nemesis after she bombs the assassination attempt of Turners daughter, and the special op's agent who can actually blend in with anything in his surroundings (the part where he is actually a part of the rock/cement pillar is hilarious).

All in all, if you are a true fan of the Dumb and Dumber series, you will probably enjoy this movie; if it not, and it is your first time ever even hearing about it, I suggest you do not waste your time paying to see it. Wait and catch it at a friends or relatives.
