Review of Dumb and Dumber To (2014) by Maksim B — 13 Mar 2015
Occasionally funny and not really original, Dumb and Dumber To is a so-so attempt for a sequel of one the most legendary absurd comedies from the 90s. Soaked in nostalgia, the second movie offers much of what made the original one a cult delivery and heavily relies that it would work. Certainly, there are some moments of hilarious gags, but as whole the movie exceeds even the wildest expectations of absurdity and profanity.
For most of the viewers, the main reason to check out what is going on with Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) 20 years later would be the love for the original movie and the unique characters they are. Pretty quickly one would find that not much has changed with Lloyd and Harry, except for the originality of the initial profanity. Simply because one has the first movie to compare, Dumb and Dumber To has almost the impossible task to match its predecessor. Far more commercial than creative, the humor is present, but the story is totally missing and everything seems as if the sequel was made way too late than necessary.
There is no doubt that almost everyone who enjoyed the Farrelly's original movie would line-up to see Dumb and Dumber To hoping that they would be having the same fun. Unfortunately they would most probably not have it. The few solid gags are simply not above to raise this movie above the level of weak and clichéd mediocrity.
