Review of Dumb and Dumber To (2014) by Stefanie R — 08 Apr 2015
Dumb and Dumber To is a special kind of awful. It has the same elements of the original; two idiots go on a road trip to bring a package to a pretty girl, fine but this time it doesn't work. Instead of letting the characters age the filmmakers decide to freeze them in 1994. By not letting them age and mature in the slightest the movie becomes Jim Carrey trying to be as wacky as he can all the time. Every scene goes for big slapstick, every scene. Some of the best jokes in the original are the subtle well time jokes. There is none of this here. I don't want to think of Harry Dunn and Lloyd Christmas as sad nasty old men. We should have gotten a comedy that complimented the original not competed with it.
There is a reason why Jennifer Lawrence asked to have her scenes cut after seeing the first cut of the film. That's a bad sign.
I give this one star because Rob Riggel was good and I chuckled a few times but that doesn't mean it's worth watching.
Please do not watch this movie go out and watch the original 1994 film hell watch the dreadful prequel from the early 2000s at least it tried something new.
