Review of Dumb and Dumber (1994) by Sean K — 22 Nov 2012
It's stupid, vile, profane, and downright hilarious. Dumb and Dumber is just what you'd expect from the Farrelly Brothers, pure classic slapstick at it's best! Jim Carrey carries his comedic prowess like an old Jerry Lewis act while Daniels brings his own golden presence of comedy as well. This story of two dimwits who travel cross country to pursue a girl is actually smarter than it looks, especially once we see that the briefcase is actually full of money. As the events unfold, I find myself remembering other cross country adventure films that were found to be classics including Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, National Lampoons Vacation, and numerous others that plagued the 80's. Surprisingly though, I found this one a bit more entertaining than any of that era, as un -classy as that may seem to some Dumb and Dumber has a contagious enthusiasm about it's venture and the laughs make it all the more worthwhile for taking.
Dumb and Dumber is a low brow, stickler comedy that is full of memorable moments, consistent gags, and even a little heart buried underneath it all. An overall great comedy film that truly makes me miss Jim Carrey and the 90s...
**SPOILER**.
Turns out Dumb and Dumber To is coming out with Daniels, Carrey, and the Farrely Brothers attached! Let's pray it's not as bad as the plethora of trash that is Dumb and Dumberer...
