Review of Duelist (2005) by Elle W — 20 Jun 2007
Again I will conceede that this is perhaps not the best film ever made ... but for pure visual splendour one would be hard-pressed to find a better. Others, who have watched Hyeongsa with me have been slightly put off by the mix of styles - from the heavily and elegantly chereographed fight/love scenes between Kang and Ha to the chase scenes done in slo-mo to the tune of Carmen Toreodor then straight to scenes reminiscent of the Keystone Cops.
But me? I liked it. I felt it worked. And while the film MAY (not that I am admitting to ANYTHING) be a little thin (even a little mystifying) on plot - its beauty, for me, more than makes up for it. That scene when he jumps up, sword in hand and framed by the moon .
... sigh. Love it.
