Review of Due Date (2010) by Thomas M — 28 Sep 2014
Rewatching this film with a closer eye now, I have to say that while tonally imbalanced, Due Date is absolutely the best film from Todd Phillips. Due Date is the type of movie where it feels as though a more transgressive film is trying to escape, richer in character and more sophisticated in it's comic brutality.
Unfortunately, glimpses of those finer qualities are only allowed to bubble up sporadically, and are mostly suffocated by low brow hijinks, that while funny when they hit, hit about as much as they miss.
Due Date has a heart, but it's brain has been mostly rotted away. With that being said, I kind of love the film more than I can defend.
