Review of DuckTales: The Movie - Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990) by Mateusz L — 22 Jun 2009
Although it is nice to see $crooge and the boys in a full length animated feature, I can't help the feeling that the writers didn't realize the potential of the characters and put them into a nice but formulaic storyline that could very well feature, say, Yogi's Gang.
The sense of adventure is still there, but gone or only scarcely scetched is everything else that made the show so memorable: Scrooge's entrepreneurship and avarice, which would put him into trouble, the resourcefulness of the nephews, as well as the wit, humor and grounding in (pop)culture.
And why the writers decided to create a new villain instead of using any of the much more interesting ones that already existed in the Duck universe is beyond my comprehension. The animation isn't that great either.
