Review of DuckTales: The Movie - Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990) by Lino N — 19 Jul 2013

DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp was initially meant to be the first film in a series of several Full-Length Theatrical DuckTales Movies. My guess is since the DuckTales TV Show was ending in November of 1990, Disney wanted to keep DuckTales going by putting out a theatrical movie every couple years. DuckTales The Movie was released to theaters in August of 1990 and was a small success. Most film critics gave it positive reviews, however it was only successful enough for Disney to recover their budget. Unfortunately though it was not a financial success. Disney ended up abandoning their plans for all future DuckTales Movies.

As a fan of the DuckTales TV Show, I thought that The DuckTales Movie was really good. I think that it was very well done and proved that a successful animated TV show could be adapted into a good successful movie if it is done right. I think that The DuckTales Movie is underrated. The Ducktales Movie was made by Walt Disney Television Animation, not Walt Disney Feature Animation.

The DuckTales Movie features Alan Young & the rest of voice cast from the TV Series reprising their roles. The film featured a basic story that was easily understandable, a good script, slightly higher animation quality than the TV Show, and the film also featured a nice score composed by David Newman.

The Ducktales Movie has a few major similarities to Disney's Aladdin which was released over two years later.

It is unfortunate that DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp was not given a wide DVD release. It is only available on The Disney Movie Club or occasionally Disney Movie Rewards. I don't think that this movie will get a wide DVD release or even a Blu-Ray release. Nothing was done for the film's twentieth anniversary. Does Disney even care about DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp?
