Review of Drunken Master (1978) by Mim J — 23 Jul 2007
Long before 'Rush Hour' or 'The Matrix', director Yuen Woo Ping (Iron Monkey) and Jackie Chan (Rumble in the Bronx) collaborated on 'Drunken Master', based on the legendary kung fu fighter Won Fei Hung.
Granted Chan takes it over the top here, but 'DM' is a refreshingly fun 70's kung fu flick that was around 20 years before the CGI-filled Matrix and Rush Hour films were released. The action is non-stop and the choreography is wonderful.
While it may not be considered as good as it's sequel, often referred to one of the greatest martial arts films of all time, 'DM' is an enjoyable, comedic, action packed extravaganza that doesn't disappoint.
