Review of Drunken Master (1978) by Charlie F — 14 Jan 2009
The Drunken Master is one of Jackie Chan's finest works.
As per usual with a Jackie Chan film, the choreography is fantastic with a great range of styles and creative use of props.
As is common with martial arts films the locales are beautiful.
Characters too are interesting and memorable, especially Jackie's portrayal of Wong Fei Hung and the character of So Hai and the awesome Thunderlegs.
The plot is far from oscar winning but it is solid and easy to follow, besides what does anyone expect from a martial arts film.
The music fits in well with the scenes but nothing that stands out.
Overall this is a fantastic film and one of Jackie's finest pieces, marred only by the poor quality dub found in most martial arts films but still well worth a watch.
