Review of Drunken Angel (1948) by Jonathan H — 10 Jan 2008
A young yakuza with a life of booze, women and chainsmoking finds out that he has tuberculosis from a drunken doctor whose greatest sorrow in life is that he can't save every person that looks for his help. The two goes through their own journeys in the movie and what can I say? This is truly a Kurosawa movie, it's emotional, tragic, thoughtfull and amusing at the same time. With very little Kurosawa made wonders with his favorite actors Takashi Shimura and Toshiro Mifune.
This movie gave me new great respect for all three of them.
