Review of Drumline (2002) by M W — 28 Dec 2012

I wrote a long detailed review for this that didn't save. So instead I'm just going to say it more concisely. The reasons I don't like this movie.

1) because I was in a marching band, I found many inconsistencies that annoy me but which many movie goers probably wouldn't care about.

2) It annoys me when movies are supposed to be "black movies" which I believe i'm entitled to call this since it aired on "black entertainment television" and then they just water it down with the skinniest light skinned black women and unnatural slang dialogue to make the movie more approachable for white people.

3) plot wise I don't think the movie really made a point and I also don't think it made a lot of sense at times. it had one character who got discouraged and then eventually made friends with his rival and learned to read music, and the band won their competition, but basically there was no struggle nor any lesson learned.

4) The performances from the bands which the whole movie led up to weren't that good.
