Review of Drowning by Numbers (1988) by Jeff B — 02 Jul 2007
Hilarious film by Peter Greenaway (The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover). It's about a woman, her two daughers, and their relationship to the local coroner and his son. Filled with a lot of jokes, especially the constant appearance of numbers throughout the movie, I was laughing the whole way through.
It's got the obvious Greenaway touches (I've only seen a couple of his films but they're hard not to notice), so it may not be for everyone. But the whole cast is great, especially Joan Plowright and Bernard Hill.
I think my favorite part is probably the cricket match. I highly recommend this little film.
