Review of Drop Dead Gorgeous (1991) by Rory S — 13 Sep 2009

This movie delivers exactly what it's meant to deliver, which it does well in the field of being a light hearted satire upon American teenagers, beauty pageants and just America itself. But I as for as much as I liked it there were two things somewhat ill stated by itself: for being a dark comedy/satire, like I've stated, it didn't felt like it took itself far enough, it wasn't even in the dialogue or slapstick it was in it's violence, I don't think I've ever ran across a movie once before and felt gypped in a way because they'd make you hate someone for the majority of it's run time and when comes time for her timely demise not to have some form of deranged corpse in the presence of the DOP was shocking to me and almost bemusing!

The second thing would be the latter 1/6th of the movie, which is hard for me to say a bit because I love Kirsten, but was to me unneeded. To show Amber win one pageant by divine providence or luck was fine to see the first time, the time it felt quite needed and relevant but to show it happen again for the mere reason to conclude her story with text later on made it feel like the director was going to finish it like a serious movie then once it draws you in maybe only slightly from thinking it's not over it felt like paraphrasing was quite easier anyways, so might as well stop while it was ahead.
