Drop Dead Fred could have worked but the mean spirit behind the imaginary friend just didn't allow for sympathy to either of the leads. Rik Mayall is unfunny and disturbing in his role of Drop Dead Fred and Phoebe Cates is unable to garner sympathy from viewers for her unapologetic attitude and lack of common sense.

Drop Dead Fred has a chuckle or two but for the most part is an unfunny comedy that is to mature for kids, to immature for adults, and to cheesy for teens.
