Review of Driving Miss Daisy (2015) by Adrienne L — 29 Jun 2010
I absolutely love it, and this is such an unusual film. The story focuses of the lives of two people: an elderly white woman and her black driver. Jessica Tandy is initially dismissive of the need for a driver, unwilling to admit that she can no longer safely drive herself around town.
I love this movie so much because of how carefully and subtly these two characters grow to love each other, not over a period of a few weeks, but decades. This is a complex relationship that doesn't fully bear its fruit until the beautiful scene at the end, where Tandy admits that Freeman is her best friend. I didn't even need to hear it, because we are shown all the experiences they live (and fight) through, and how all these moments carefully bind them together in friendship.
