Review of Driving Miss Daisy (2015) by Peter P — 08 Jun 2011
I just remember absolutely hating this movie when I saw it and I was younger. I thought it was so freaking boring and the lady was a big ol bitch with an annoying high-pitched tone. Now, watching this as I'm older I would say yes it was both boring and yes the lady is very ignorant but I see now that it's more than that .
For some reason I remembered the movie as the lady never talking to Hoke until the last minutes of the movie in her car, now I see that wasn't true. In fact, the last scene was in a nursing home and was truly touching and made me cry.
I realize her character and her relationship with Hoke is very complex and she is extremely stubborn and prideful up til the end. The acting was great and while Mrs. Tandy was rude, she made me laugh and she grew on you like their friendship.
The characters and acting were way better than the plot, which plodded along so slowly and uneventfully and it also skipped past many years randomly toward the end.
