Review of Driving Miss Daisy (2015) by Gavin S — 01 Oct 2012
I'm sure I watched this between 8-12 yrs old and liking it then, but not getting it all. Watching it again as an adult, it's obvious to see that this is what 'the Help' aspired to do: reach people with a message anyone could relate to, yet still discuss a major issue.
23 years later, Morgan Freeman looks a little older, but not much...he was Oscar nominated for his role (which he originated in the off-Broadway play) which he approaches so subtly, hardly a word has to be spoken in some scenes for effective communication.
Jessica Tandy won for Best Actress, at 81, a new record for oldest non-honourary Oscar. Such a simple movie, and says plenty. The events take place over 25+ years, and it's a rare movie that takes the time to develop character and story over such a period.
2 proud people learn to get along with one another, and grow as the country around them grows. A fine film, one of many in the career of Morgan Freeman, who should take his place amongst the greatest actors of all time when it's all said and done.
