Review of Driving Lessons (2006) by Rain T — 17 Jul 2009
A very unconventional Brit Comedy that has Rupert Grint and Julie Walters arm in arm for an unforgetable story of growing up, independence, aging and friendship. Although the film has a few slower parts it is engaging because the audience witnesses Grint's character's ability to become more open and Julie's character to be a little less stubborn and a little more sympathetic.
Laura Linney's character is a very manufactured, carbon copy character that one sees in many movies so it was no surprise that she was the antagonist to Grint as the fussing and close minded mother that she had to play; her accent unfortunately was not convincing.
The disappointment factor in this movie is Grint's sluggishness, he seems asleep or dead/alive through most of the film lacking any emotion or attachment to other characters... perhaps this was intentional on his part.
