Review of Driven (2001) by Stewart C — 28 Jul 2012
Essentially, what Silvester Stallone try to do with this movie is take Rocky and just paint it over with racing. Unfortunately, racing and boxing as sports couldn't be more different. Thus, you have a movie that's both poorly written and highly inaccurate to racing.
Make no mistake, there's a lot of drama in racing, especially open wheel. But not a single one of the hardships and politics of racing are portrayed accurately in this movie. The crashes also look like they came from a dodgy physics Need for Speed game.
In all my years of watching racing, I've never seen someone end up in the lake at Montreal... that's how unrealistic and stupid this movie is. (Honestly how do you end up in the lake at Montreal?!!!!).
