Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Chuck W — 23 Jul 2011
Once again Nic Cage sullies his name with a pure dose of garbage. This time instead of a throwback to cheap 80's fantasy movies like The Season of the Witch we have a nonesensical, OTT cheapo action movie.
It's meant to be tongue in cheek and utterly ridiculous but when Cage plays the same downtrodden, stoney-faced, humourless and utterly unlikeable character that he does in all his action movies the viewer can get bored very quickly.
If he played his character with a bit of humour, I would have enjoyed this movie so much more. The entire movie is hokey and cheesy in the extreme, Amber Heard and the cars look amazing but the only memorable scene was done much better in Shoot Em Up (you'll know it when you see it) and even the 3-D looks uninspiring.
I know it's supposed to be a brainless blast of an action movie but just thought it could have be so much better. The CGI looked so cheap it was unreal. Only thing worth watching this movie for is Prison Break's William Fichtner, once again he is great but come the end his character is utterly pointless.
Forgettable nonesense again from Cage. Roll on Ghost Rider 2...(sigh).
