Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Teddy B — 12 Aug 2011
Drive Angry has all the elements for entry to the Grindhouse hall of fame (Machete and Hobo with a shotgun): fast cars, nude women, ludicrous action, Satan worshippers and Nicolas Cage, but unfortunately this is a toweringly ludicrous mess, an unabashed trash. The car chases â" not as numerous as youâ(TM)d think â" are pedestrian and lacking in speed. The action sequences are overblown and unimaginative with a shameless âShoot â(TM)Em Upâ? rip-off, where Cage blows holes in bad guys while shagging a cocktail waitress.
Itâ(TM)s dull with Cage on auto-pilot, sleepwalking throughout and properly only doing this for the money (IRS).
Highpoint of the movie is William Fichtnerâ(TM)s amusingly Walken-esque supernatural bail bondsman â~The Accountantâ(TM). When heâ(TM)s on screen, Drive Angry hits the gas and nails the tone it should have throughout.
The biggest disappointment of all, there's not even that much angry driving in it!
