Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Bruce S — 16 Sep 2011
The title intrigues, the story/plot seems interesting, the actors are in place, Nicolas Cage as a action, hard hitting kind of guy and a beautiful Amber Heard at his side and a lot of extra very special characters, well it all seems fine.
I do like a good grindhouse film, but I don't think Patrick Lussier does a very good job with this one.
It has an okay story, but it sounds better in writing, then what you see on the screen. The actors seem good and mostly they are, but their characters are very special and very surreal. The effects are not bad, but not good either, they seem to g for the wanted follow the bullets kind of thing and the typical big explosions action scenes and the fierce/reckless driving.
I went in to this with my head held high and good expectations, but I am disappointed, it's a bit too weird and not in the way a good grindhouse production can be, bad lines, bad effects, fun parts and nice action, but all-in-all it doesn't add up and it's not enough to save the film.
