Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Jonathan K — 12 Oct 2011
I really wasn't expecting much from this, mainly because it looked to be predicated upon being a 3D movie, which I refuse to watch because I wear glasses and like to be able to see what is happening on screen. It also sounded as if it was a retread of Ghost Rider, and to a large extent that is true.
On the 3D issue, this was a film shot in 3D and used that technology, which was slightly disconcerting becuse I watched the 2D version of it and the amount of shots that were set up to make use of 3D just looked like very clumsy camera work in 2D.
The plot is pure exploitation fodder as is the prescence of the femails in the film, just put there to dress the screen, despite the rather pathetic attmpts to make Amber Heards character ballsy and heroric. The plot borders on the absurd but thats fine, it not only asks to to suspend your disbelief but asks you to revel in that absudity. And it does exactly what it sets out to do which is to drive fast and blow shit up...and guess what, this was bloody fun. Fun in the same crazy way that the first Crank movie was.
