Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Mark F — 10 Nov 2011
You get one of the most craziest sex scene I've ever seen. Shoot 'Em Up eat your heart. The sexy Charlottte Ross is riding Cage while he sits all cool with his cigar and bottle of Jack and thus begins to blow away goons while still banging.
Then later on he drinks beer out of a skull. This is guilty pleasure at it's finest. How could anybody take a movie about a badass motherfucker escaping from hell to rescue his baby grand daughter from and avenge his daughter's death from a Satanic cult looking to bring hell to earth serious? You have to know you're walking into shit when watching this.
But you know you're going to be entertained as hell. Not a pun. Hate puns. As with how crazy this movie is it also gives off a slight grind house vibe. There is just certain elements in this movie that made it entertaining despite it having a bad script and not a very well crafted dialogue with one liners.
The movie is ridiculous and absurd in so many levels, but for a movie like this that is one of the key factors why this movie is so enjoyable. Billy Burke is pretty good playing the cult leader but the most entertaining actor to watch in this movie is William Fichtner as The Accountant, he is great in this and I enjoyed every scene he was in.
In fact I wouldn't mind seeing a prequel or a sequel to this movie where he is the main character. Take him out and this movie would have lost a huge part of why I loved it. Amber Heard though proves again why she is better seen then heard.
Again, not intentional. And Cage plays the most interesting action role since Face/Off. You also get a decent selection of supporting actors like Tom Atkins, Jack McGee, David Morse and always welcomed Pruitt Taylor Vince.
One thing that really bothered me was seeing this in it's 2D on DVD. They really should go through and edit those moments a bit because it just looked really poor. On the big screen in 3D it probably looked really cool.
But not on this format.
